Cultura Metropolitana is a project based in Milan, about investigating the city and contextualizing culture.
Description
The city is the greatest organism made by the human being. Each city has a different DNA, the infrastructure as its costitutive element and the public; using, re-activating the city, culture and its traditions. The result is a unique urban form and performance. The current metropolis constantly endures metabolical changes -from sprawl to cultural transformations- and throughout this phase, mobility and the infrastructural system prove to be essential; forming the spine of the city by connecting extremities. What kind of harmony is to be found among new potentialities and the sense of preserving the metropolis’ culture? An urban culture infrastructure.
Mezzi Culturali
Mobility should consolidate the local culture by spreading it to the city’s spines and document it in its urban structure. The first approach, the physical infill, would occur in unused available spaces in it by turning them to cultural platforms, gathering and collecting urban culture. The second approach concerns transportation, as it should be taken as an advantage to diffuse culture to the very quotidian activities happening in the infrastructural system. This proposal seeks to play with the timescale of mobility, by reforming these elements from their current limited function to active transporters of information and experience.
